What is a Mobile application?

A mobile application, most commonly referred to as an app, is a type of application software designed to run on a mobile device, such as a smartphone or tablet computer. Mobile applications frequently serve to provide users with similar services to those accessed on PCs. Apps are generally small, individual software units with limited function. This use of software has been popularized by Apple Inc. and its App Store, which sells thousands of applications for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.

A mobile application also may be known as an app, Web app, online app, iPhone app or smartphone app.

What is Mobile application testing?

Mobile application testing is a process by which application software developed for handheld mobile devices is tested for its functionality, usability and consistency. Mobile application testing can be an automated or manual type of testing. Mobile applications either come pre-installed or can be installed from mobile software distribution platforms.

Mobile apps testing is testing of Applications from Mobile Devices, it is not the testing of Mobile Device.
Mobile application can be Native App, Web App or Hybrid application.
Manual or Automation Testing can be performed to test Mobile Application’s.
