The concept of internet of things was firstly introduced by Bill Joy in his “Six Webs” framework at the world economic forum Davos in 1999. Later on, MIT reviewed this concept in detail and presented a hypothesis that radio frequency identification (RFID) is important for internet of things because it will allow computers to connect with each other in order to make a network. This concept passed through different phases, in 2002 research paper was submitted in Norway whereas, it was practiced in 2008 and 2009.

There are five major components of internet of things, which include

First component of IoT is Device. It is an operator which has ability to perform activity by observation with the help of sensors. Second component of IoT is actuator. It is further attached with gate way which transfers data or information to the cloud which is also known as third component of internet of things. Cloud is designed to store bulk amount of data and also able to process it. Another component of IoT is called Analytics.  This is the place where data is submitted and in-depth analytics have taken in to the account to take decisions. Last component of internet of things is User interface. It is made up of multiple devices and software which are used to communicate between user and computers.

The working principle of internet of things is very simple. It is more understandable with the help of example. For instance, you are moving in the car and you need to know about the shortest route to go or you have to go from the road with no traffic, then your car with sensors will act as device. It will send your current position and destination information to the hub of data (cloud) with the help of gateway, which will be further processed to analytics. After observing facts user interface will send data to you and you will get information about best route to go.

2- In enterprise section it has wonderful consequences. Internet of things has ability to control 9.1 billion devices in same time.

3- It is very helpful in the management and operation of infrastructure and manufacturing of bridges, roads and buildings. It has ability to work in incident management purposes. It is also useful in emergency situations for signaling the ships and other devices.

4- In agriculture department, the usage of internet of things is beneficial. It will provide you weather forecast, wind speed, humidity in air and condition of soil. In this way it will improve the agricultural techniques which will increase your earnings.

5-It is also applicable in energy management, environmental monitoring, medicine and health care and transportation.

It is fast growing technology and very useful in all sections of life. But, there are some drawbacks of internet of things in security and reliability. So, before applying internet of things, it is prime important to work on the disadvantages of internet of things to improve the quality and feasibility of this network.
